<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Firstly, welcome to my new followers! I hope you enjoy my blog.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well, over the weekend we cleared out the dining room and kitchen in preparation for the long awaited flooring to arrive. As I write, there is a man fitting plywood to the floor ahead of the new flooring being laid tomorrow. I am beyond excited! I have been waiting since about October to get the flooring done and finally it will feel like something is finished!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You'll see the new larch cladding where our ugly porch used to be. I am not totally convinced about it yet, but it is meant to weather to a silvery grey which will hopefully be a bit less garish. It is a vast improvement on the porch that was there and once we paint the front of the house it will all be much lovelier.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Things are moving along with the house so my thoughts are turning to how I would like to decorate our new bedroom in the loft, or upstairs, as I keep telling our 2 year old to call it as it is no longer a loft but part of the house!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWNMu9YrcjPHbbZddrFq08yxJzOhe7ot1e0Hv5hPKYqQssUt65rhtcSaVxZoU1dLDdoujoMX6g6oe8XtvYQjvzu-8qmmwS1TlpaaeDLnZU9gEMTuzNAmdH_cBxAAm_OscHFyOE34AC7Bg/s1600/Grey+bedroom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWNMu9YrcjPHbbZddrFq08yxJzOhe7ot1e0Hv5hPKYqQssUt65rhtcSaVxZoU1dLDdoujoMX6g6oe8XtvYQjvzu-8qmmwS1TlpaaeDLnZU9gEMTuzNAmdH_cBxAAm_OscHFyOE34AC7Bg/s320/Grey+bedroom.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I seem to be in a grey phase and I love the coastal look of this room. I think the light is perhaps a bit close to the bed though!</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf5e1o2okmc-whPd3jwFXTPYveduuxd7rMgF6TmJZHuQR4adFdsyee5Lp87qdRjDupbPD3jhDAOPiE3-Fgl37K0wI0t4nQTOp4QTrqBduAjl6v3d_TqyY3UCNtQiGCrlRrbRzjGaGQPg4/s1600/country+bedroom.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf5e1o2okmc-whPd3jwFXTPYveduuxd7rMgF6TmJZHuQR4adFdsyee5Lp87qdRjDupbPD3jhDAOPiE3-Fgl37K0wI0t4nQTOp4QTrqBduAjl6v3d_TqyY3UCNtQiGCrlRrbRzjGaGQPg4/s320/country+bedroom.bmp" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div align="center">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">This is my favourite inspirational picture. It was in Ideal Home magazine over the winter and I just love everything about it. I love the grey tones, the piles of comfy cozy things on the bed, the vintage hooks on the wall and the luggage rack complete with old suitcase by the window. I don't think I ever got round to telling the story of rescuing an old suitcase out of a neighbours skip did I? Well, I did exactly that and it is now in our garage waiting for a good use along with a broken table that I also fancied. I did ask permission before taking them!</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is how our bedroom looked a few weeks ago but things are progressing so not too long till we get the paint brushes out and then get moved in to our new room. </span></div>

</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So finally, here is our (almost) finished kitchen!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The colour is a Dulux Classics and is called Graceful Green. I am really pleased with it, the photo doesn't do it justice at all. I keep trying to take a better one but photography clearly isn't my strong point.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">We have yet to get the flooring put down as we have decided to wait until the builders are finished tramping through the house. They are currently converting our loft so it is all go again!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We are nearly finished our new kitchen extension, hurrah!! The builders finished off yesterday and now it is up to us to get all the painting done. More on that another day!</span><br />

<div align="center"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here is a sneaky peek at the kitchen as it looked this morning. Once it is painted and floored I will let you see it in all it's glory! </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family: Arial;">It is so much better than I hoped it would be and has made a huge difference to the house, making it feel so so much bigger already.</span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family: Arial;">We opted for Ikea units and I think they look good. I especially like the tiles which we deliberated over for a long time but am so glad that we took the plunge and chose them.</span></div><div align="center"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJfSOckzYQFvhyphenhyphenFKt2P03kGGRtaAKjXr8-c7b7xu2EoNtv5mw2y1FEXPy62xd0R3CxiwGu5iXyRx2qInWfO0GgFlFvPskcFkmWTElydwjrUJ4W9ELqglgFvFiecU4mESim1-oMRicZWDc/s1600/IMG_0483.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJfSOckzYQFvhyphenhyphenFKt2P03kGGRtaAKjXr8-c7b7xu2EoNtv5mw2y1FEXPy62xd0R3CxiwGu5iXyRx2qInWfO0GgFlFvPskcFkmWTElydwjrUJ4W9ELqglgFvFiecU4mESim1-oMRicZWDc/s320/IMG_0483.JPG" t$="true" width="320" /></a></div><div align="center"><br />
</div><div align="center"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The tiles are tumbled slate and are all different colours and look very natural. They go a treat with the paint I have chosen too!</span></div><div align="center"><br />

<div align="center"><span style="font-family: Arial;">This is the old kitchen! It does look slightly better now than it did in this photo as it has all been replastered. We have added a skylight to let more light in which has proved very successful. The sun comes up this way in the morning and it will be a lovely bright breakfast room. More to come on this room later as we got a second hand dresser this week which needs a paint makeover. </span></div><div align="center"><br />
</div><div align="center"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Still a lot to do but I feel like we have made a massive amount of progress over the past couple of months. Must go and do some painting....</span></div><div align="center"><br />

Anyway...</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">I had a lovely Mother's Day and was treated to this lovely breakfast. I wanted to show you the lovely tea for one teapot which my little boy gave me. (Chosen with a bit of help from Daddy!) It is perfect as it is all my favourite colours and I just love my cups of tea.</span></div><br />

Well, firstly I want to say thank you for all the advice about door handles v door knobs. We decided on handles in the end! Mostly due to the fact that there was a better choice available.</span></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHwD5RWpvR5xH14728esL2ogAQSHm6MUGR8a_DrR_p1EdN3aQeyptoD5EZXPX7oHiw1CqFN2XJBoCx4fs3w33K5h2pLaETFGmJB8iDUb1NODSmdFEggssFGl17EMQLvzpx8wbxbHos0Ok/s1600/IMG_0309.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHwD5RWpvR5xH14728esL2ogAQSHm6MUGR8a_DrR_p1EdN3aQeyptoD5EZXPX7oHiw1CqFN2XJBoCx4fs3w33K5h2pLaETFGmJB8iDUb1NODSmdFEggssFGl17EMQLvzpx8wbxbHos0Ok/s320/IMG_0309.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">All the new doors are now installed and waiting to be varnished. The whole look of the house is much improved and I am so glad we chose this design. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">You might also notice that the walls are all white now. In our living room anyway! </div><div style="text-align: justify;">I have wanted this door since I first saw it advertised in a magazine. It sums up the sort of house I want to live in and maybe, just maybe, by having this front door our old house will start to feel more cottagey than dated bungalow! We don't have the lovely oak porch but we will have some larch cladding on the walls either side of the door. <br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgekTQefUgHqprTMtEpqxddjnimliO8Ab7qW3GjcaN2zZRTRqCI_GuxalRjiQd_ADveh2h__8D5SUyGhF-f3dEiVZJCibFRCLiZyKhIcUKGB828P_sflkq0Vkx-k2bn2oeoPATPyW9AZUc/s1600/dordogne.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" j6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgekTQefUgHqprTMtEpqxddjnimliO8Ab7qW3GjcaN2zZRTRqCI_GuxalRjiQd_ADveh2h__8D5SUyGhF-f3dEiVZJCibFRCLiZyKhIcUKGB828P_sflkq0Vkx-k2bn2oeoPATPyW9AZUc/s1600/dordogne.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">We've chosen the Dordogne style for our interior doors. We were debating whether to paint them or not but have decided to leave them natural oak and will just wax or oil them to try to keep the natural colour. Since deciding on these I keep seeing them everywhere! I thought I was being so unique but obviously not!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6cyHErJwzQ6SJTE8w9nKHqY9N8-GsGyVDRAD0QvhDyC4ETdAAZkZjZcoVJ1XQSQ753o8u5TtTsfbeXnHdUM4lvl49BzQWATjyXdyL5ZzaFYizkfWdEcb1AObGnU6JVa0NliCFCLTrtJs/s1600/internal+howdens+door.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" j6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6cyHErJwzQ6SJTE8w9nKHqY9N8-GsGyVDRAD0QvhDyC4ETdAAZkZjZcoVJ1XQSQ753o8u5TtTsfbeXnHdUM4lvl49BzQWATjyXdyL5ZzaFYizkfWdEcb1AObGnU6JVa0NliCFCLTrtJs/s1600/internal+howdens+door.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">We'll have two glass versions of this door too. One into the new dining room which is a very dark room as light will only get in from the kitchen window at the far end of the room. We will also have our inner porch door with glass to let in as much daylight as we can into the hallway. I do love these doors!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvl0iCylk8Ad3_8NE43C0B2ziN8s1J0CKGOwLcqsY3OwCurrupDbx6KQ3yX-n-XzWr2cd4jflM8lKBe0vCtmCrOSczyQKy_WucG6uzO__5Hbu3H8xX8WJlSvpifROWzWzR8K-GPJg2XdM/s1600/internal+door.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" j6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvl0iCylk8Ad3_8NE43C0B2ziN8s1J0CKGOwLcqsY3OwCurrupDbx6KQ3yX-n-XzWr2cd4jflM8lKBe0vCtmCrOSczyQKy_WucG6uzO__5Hbu3H8xX8WJlSvpifROWzWzR8K-GPJg2XdM/s1600/internal+door.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">The only thing we have yet to choose is the door handles. What a dilemma! I quite like the idea of having door knobs but I seem to be alone with that option. Chrome or brushed steel? Backplate or not? Who would have thought there were so many decisions to make.</div>coastal village lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03653513646123013658noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4164987724102520308.post-49378434455023851882011-02-21T14:44:00.000+00:002011-02-21T14:44:45.367+00:00Fun at the beach<div style="text-align: justify;">Yesterday we took our little boy to the beach for the first time. Well, the first time since he could walk on his own in the sand and he loved it!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQQpNDjRMegRSB3nQ66saZmuR-lvNX2pDxLu6MxiragpG9o7pZty8JH67Jyw-vLYaIO5u0etIwhwA6ihE742gcoETr_Qx8LyRq-3qFR3rxoALOOB-dN-gZ2CE3O9SoVVqlYJ5jg898Op4/s1600/DSC07881.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" j6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQQpNDjRMegRSB3nQ66saZmuR-lvNX2pDxLu6MxiragpG9o7pZty8JH67Jyw-vLYaIO5u0etIwhwA6ihE742gcoETr_Qx8LyRq-3qFR3rxoALOOB-dN-gZ2CE3O9SoVVqlYJ5jg898Op4/s320/DSC07881.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">We got all wrapped up in our waterproofs, hats, scarves and wellie boots ready for our adventure. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFRnZWTUdGuiM5B0AahuHEh5Lm-_vaRzhfpVPIJJVXfjoISVJE1gHNLqxdBJy3qtUOWKUWftmh28xZpJXtuXhQJtbvC0NnQHYXMPpjIFZCWnFyCwLsFt0qR_35XrfrT4CgoMTMnozE-QA/s1600/DSC07909.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" j6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFRnZWTUdGuiM5B0AahuHEh5Lm-_vaRzhfpVPIJJVXfjoISVJE1gHNLqxdBJy3qtUOWKUWftmh28xZpJXtuXhQJtbvC0NnQHYXMPpjIFZCWnFyCwLsFt0qR_35XrfrT4CgoMTMnozE-QA/s320/DSC07909.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">I can't wait until the weather gets a bit better and we will be down at the beach all the time. We are so lucky to have this so nearby.</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOdRyu-0qI6XVCUY0MFUqlj3bwHMtxFoj_Wt1LGxI5zloP3g2G_zrywYViEUrDXpfSlzN_Rqk1B-JUgMQ5yghfR1tWzs6yPpyoXufQCt0nsaVPm3gKEtth2z5bEOxiFu8tI9ZjFme7aNM/s1600/DSC07944.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" j6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOdRyu-0qI6XVCUY0MFUqlj3bwHMtxFoj_Wt1LGxI5zloP3g2G_zrywYViEUrDXpfSlzN_Rqk1B-JUgMQ5yghfR1tWzs6yPpyoXufQCt0nsaVPm3gKEtth2z5bEOxiFu8tI9ZjFme7aNM/s320/DSC07944.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Ewan would have stayed there all day if we let him. He actually screamed when we had to leave! By that time though his mittens were all covered in sand and his waterproof suit was being tested to its limits! What fun we had though.</div>coastal village lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03653513646123013658noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4164987724102520308.post-66633829054299294462011-02-19T20:56:00.001+00:002011-02-19T20:57:24.701+00:00Learning to sew with Jo!<div style="text-align: justify;">I have spent a lovely day with my good friends Jo and Julia, both of whom I used to work with. Jo invited us to her house for a sewing tutorial and lunch! It was a great idea as we got to have a good old chat, lovely lunch and learn how to make this lovely pincushion.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqp0RxzFt7IkSnPzjKeQF20vzPpErPoTGtZ-Jl5m4aSR0EAz-1TcNTOYGW05saqZjqtPnR9LhBybbR9_uay-qkUvxDrJ3LRCPXJ878w1m4TcJw9U5QqDI_yjZqmN3YPidh2wSAc4YPYLc/s1600/Pin1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" j6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqp0RxzFt7IkSnPzjKeQF20vzPpErPoTGtZ-Jl5m4aSR0EAz-1TcNTOYGW05saqZjqtPnR9LhBybbR9_uay-qkUvxDrJ3LRCPXJ878w1m4TcJw9U5QqDI_yjZqmN3YPidh2wSAc4YPYLc/s320/Pin1.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">It is a little mini topiary tree and was great fun to make even with my limited sewing skills. Jo had to help me out with a few tricky bits! Too much talking and not enough concentrating on the sewing perhaps!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIM5tvkkTnhnQ3bF7bD2gpWFbhO6t2LudIJsw6D1jx4PvYr3VrmjZ00FTnU6kLb_BPf_v9dqy02ug-1gusX1MWwJfl4Tc8sVxK3aiMjL5UHNOwiNahiiesmzGMeoA5U6Z6_wyPwl_Fcvs/s1600/Pin3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" j6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIM5tvkkTnhnQ3bF7bD2gpWFbhO6t2LudIJsw6D1jx4PvYr3VrmjZ00FTnU6kLb_BPf_v9dqy02ug-1gusX1MWwJfl4Tc8sVxK3aiMjL5UHNOwiNahiiesmzGMeoA5U6Z6_wyPwl_Fcvs/s320/Pin3.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">I got to choose fabrics from Jo's vast (and I mean Vast!) collection of scraps. That in itself was a thrill and I would have been happy rummaging through the scraps all day. I had to choose 8 segments for my tree and then sew them around paper templates. I then went about sewing them all together to make my tree top. Next task was to make a felt pot filled with rice and stuffing (not the food type, the wadding type!). And here it is the finished result. The trunk is green felt covering a straw with pipe cleaners inside it to give stability to the tree.</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi92rdNmD9n8vXymbkkh__dIdRJQh_qYmjE1G2Eko9QI9XOLuyjSFvS0K_QcOHEn2iAs4SXeg7zgosoa29qOCayx9NA0dU3s30bCszNV226JGbGYR96FIF-QFxnnq3Lz5pO45Uv5uIKDD0/s1600/Pin2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" j6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi92rdNmD9n8vXymbkkh__dIdRJQh_qYmjE1G2Eko9QI9XOLuyjSFvS0K_QcOHEn2iAs4SXeg7zgosoa29qOCayx9NA0dU3s30bCszNV226JGbGYR96FIF-QFxnnq3Lz5pO45Uv5uIKDD0/s320/Pin2.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">This close up shows off my not so great sewing but I am very pleased with it for a first attempt. The joy of creating something so pretty on a rainy Saturday afternoon really lifted my spirits. For loads more crafting loveliness check out Jo's blog - <a href="http://bearpawandbearpaw.blogspot.com/">Bearpaw</a>. You can also see the cute little house pincushion which Julia made and there is a full tutorial if you fancy having a go yourself. Have a lovely weekend!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

For those of you who didn't see it before we started here is a reminder. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I was amazed at how much the plumber got done on the first day. All the old fittings were gone, the new loo was in, the new bath and one wall tiled. The tiles are called Etrusco and are a nice natural stone sort of shade. We were in a real dilemma about which way to have the tiles but opted for the brick style. I'm really glad we choose this as I think it looks good! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">On Day 2, they bricked up the old window and put up a new inner wall. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">The tiling had all been finished by the end of Day 3 and the shower and new vanity unit and sink fitted. I need a new diary and have been browsing online to find a lovely one. I always think I will use a diary much more than I ever do. Last year I discovered Organised Mum who sell a whole range of stationery items to get you organised. This year I have my eye on these goodies.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIxPtK4rACkgNlrXyuAAnr0x906BqWxH6weQDrX5e3O_TMyKjv8ZpVajsIQoQRSmHLzD2nu9yZx4Wke-Nj3TE12yjVKQzY9OxEPng4pH7aWduvXJ1ud-NYuqbacV_akC9ToGoXZd_CoSo/s1600/Pocket+Life+Diary.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIxPtK4rACkgNlrXyuAAnr0x906BqWxH6weQDrX5e3O_TMyKjv8ZpVajsIQoQRSmHLzD2nu9yZx4Wke-Nj3TE12yjVKQzY9OxEPng4pH7aWduvXJ1ud-NYuqbacV_akC9ToGoXZd_CoSo/s1600/Pocket+Life+Diary.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">The Pocket Life Book is essentially a diary but has a section for shopping list and meal ideas which is great. We regularly write a shopping list and plan what to eat every day, go shopping, throw away the list and then wonder what wonderful creations we had decided to cook for the rest of the week! This year it is even in my favourite colour combo of turquoise and pink. Fab!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj3bJttlTTYDAU2nwkaMs-r8-e2JOuDuw8YvZbrfVenGDxAmcfXFeMPwvt9gqf0u6V_gyO_kh6f4FZF5djrmLNp2ns7EJcWBmafVdl_ExaSG4IVlfJSV2q3Enf1ug24lo2e2lO_SJ-meQ/s1600/Budget+Boo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj3bJttlTTYDAU2nwkaMs-r8-e2JOuDuw8YvZbrfVenGDxAmcfXFeMPwvt9gqf0u6V_gyO_kh6f4FZF5djrmLNp2ns7EJcWBmafVdl_ExaSG4IVlfJSV2q3Enf1ug24lo2e2lO_SJ-meQ/s1600/Budget+Boo.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">This is a Budget Book in which you can keep track of monthly expenses and there is a pocket every month to keep all your receipts in. For me, this is great news as I quite often want to keep receipts for things I have bought but never quite know where to keep them all. Ta da, problem solved.</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjD1MGViABiavCx2aF-h4wibY9OveaJfaJhIQF2y61jvu2T1wBx6zlQ_lg1NNlBEE-HGzqrYiuOKPzhy-orHQlv0G8qQaYMaBCW3eF8Nfa2FGTjnTz8UwMLKNMaoYG0Nnd__Wcsg1lg31M/s1600/Shop+List+Menu.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjD1MGViABiavCx2aF-h4wibY9OveaJfaJhIQF2y61jvu2T1wBx6zlQ_lg1NNlBEE-HGzqrYiuOKPzhy-orHQlv0G8qQaYMaBCW3eF8Nfa2FGTjnTz8UwMLKNMaoYG0Nnd__Wcsg1lg31M/s1600/Shop+List+Menu.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Finally, for my big sis, a meal planner and shopping list which you can put up on your fridge. I bought her one of these last year as a treat and she loved it so she has asked for another one this year. The shopping list section is split into sections such as dairy, bakery, household, drinks etc. A great help when you are in the supermarket.<br />
<br />
Check out their website for loads of other fab stuff. <a href="http://www.organised-mum.co.uk/">Organised Mum</a><br />
<br />
Have a nice day, I'm off to get organised!<br />

</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Some of you may know we have been stuck in Dunkeld (at my mum's) since the installation of our new windows was delayed by the massive amount of snow we had over the past two weeks. I would like to report that we are now home and all the windows are finished. The house looks so much better already. More to come on the windows later!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

Hurrah! We have had our new boiler and radiators installed. It is such bliss to turn on a tap and know that there will be hot water!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Our new boiler in the back porch</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div style="text-align: justify;">I never realised what a dilemma it was to decide where to put radiators in each room. Traditionally they would be put below windows but then if you want to have floor length curtains this becomes a problem so we have mostly opted to put them near or behind the door in each room as this is out of the way of furniture and usually wasted space.</div><br />

Our new windows are being installed at the end of this week so I will post again once they are finished. I can't wait as the ones we have at the moment have chunks falling out of the wooden frames and are all mouldy on the inside. Oh, the excitement!<br />
<br />
Welcome to my new followers since my last post too, thanks for joining me!<br />

I think we will have cream or white units and a wooden worktop. I like how the wood warms up the pale units. One of my favourite things about this picture is the shelf unit on the wall. I am on the lookout for a similar one. It adds some interest and colour to the kitchen while still being functional.</div><br />

That is also our wedding anniversary so it should be a happy day of celebration all round!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipar4DXuiuNhnPGyXjvvbjY5CcHnNwA74baGIUpJOG2772odGb005gyaQ7u3emgylOPfOx8rp10eheO2xqOLrtz9uqyew5_pxPkR6g6Q5s-W3yn0IGJlc1hPIzFrgTqhIePFloiTfQEF8/s1600/Sunroom.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipar4DXuiuNhnPGyXjvvbjY5CcHnNwA74baGIUpJOG2772odGb005gyaQ7u3emgylOPfOx8rp10eheO2xqOLrtz9uqyew5_pxPkR6g6Q5s-W3yn0IGJlc1hPIzFrgTqhIePFloiTfQEF8/s200/Sunroom.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">You'll remember the previous photo of the "sun room". Well, this will be demolished which is great news as it has moss growing on the inside of the windows and a very squint floor. It will be replaced with a new pitched roof extension which will house our new kitchen. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjoVM7Wjy40PnDkQJ-6ncfS5OaJTseNbpkUEyAnq0Rdtxdg9Is4ZRc5ZThUkKW8sjRyuL_MlNhb-CgvRQfNJ-xjk8QA7ztCX8FueFsmfXL3-mk50zxGAQxNDu2JJkYz6jV0BRNmW7YnGo/s1600/New+extension.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjoVM7Wjy40PnDkQJ-6ncfS5OaJTseNbpkUEyAnq0Rdtxdg9Is4ZRc5ZThUkKW8sjRyuL_MlNhb-CgvRQfNJ-xjk8QA7ztCX8FueFsmfXL3-mk50zxGAQxNDu2JJkYz6jV0BRNmW7YnGo/s320/New+extension.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div align="justify" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is the architect's drawing of what the back of the house will look like with the new extension. There are also velux windows shown in the roof which is the next phase. If we have any money left, we will convert our loft!</div><div align="justify" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPShgTD8fFNMBzWUda_TBT6djdsuArLTBR4s65_dOPzgupfBQAykcX1JXuHlWjpVF__TpoTr9Y2Mjh9wgiaU59Xm-kW7VbeTD0f5Zn_yG7In00-HfwDasdxXjaQg2sPHxqxDoxwUPw0YE/s1600/Extension+Plan.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="195" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPShgTD8fFNMBzWUda_TBT6djdsuArLTBR4s65_dOPzgupfBQAykcX1JXuHlWjpVF__TpoTr9Y2Mjh9wgiaU59Xm-kW7VbeTD0f5Zn_yG7In00-HfwDasdxXjaQg2sPHxqxDoxwUPw0YE/s320/Extension+Plan.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Sorry this picture isn't very good, but it shows the layout of our house and the new kitchen/family area, utility and loft bedrooms. Down the left hand side of the picture is the front of our house so to help you get your head around it, both our sitting room and master bedroom both look out to the front. <br />
<br />
I have my cold fingers and toes crossed that the builders will start on 8th November as it is very cold here now and we are struggling a bit with our old storage heating system. I actually saw snow on the hills for the first time this year at the weekend! Our poor little boy doesn't have a heater in his room so we have been leaving his door open all night to let the heat in from the hallway which luckily seems to be keeping his room warm.<br />
<br />
More to come soon on ideas and inspiration for our project. Have a lovely day!<br />

They are a size 5 which, having spoken to my friend's and my mum, seems like it is quite big for a first pair of shoes. My friends have 2 1/2 year olds and they only have size 6 feet! He can't walk yet but we needed a pair as he crawls around at the park and gets cold feet when he is in the buggy so now he will be nice and toasty.</div><br />

I have been getting in the Christmas spirit this week as I am an Independent Phoenix Trader selling their gorgeous greeting cards, wrap and stationery and Christmas has arrived in the land of the greeting card! So, I held a party at my mum's house for all her friends last week then had one here in our house for all my friends, old and new, this week. I was quite busy and am amazed at how organised people are to be able to order their Christmas cards already!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJNf1x0xD6sQwqWukcuuerNzNlQ-Dcy1uHhNKNeNpuSnUEG8SR4a66Ca-1UADG8DuU9apdByls5T9WRMXiSLO85KA0SLsEg_1B3O1okdh6tDOakKYRicCFSJlGlO1tc-tqrmRW2SQ66aY/s1600/DSC05156.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ex="true" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJNf1x0xD6sQwqWukcuuerNzNlQ-Dcy1uHhNKNeNpuSnUEG8SR4a66Ca-1UADG8DuU9apdByls5T9WRMXiSLO85KA0SLsEg_1B3O1okdh6tDOakKYRicCFSJlGlO1tc-tqrmRW2SQ66aY/s320/DSC05156.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Since we moved house I have been keen to earn a bit of money as being a stay at home mum is rewarding but not in the financial sense. So selling cards is my contribution to our renovation budget. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">If you are interested in seeing the lovely cards I have been selling take a look at <a href="http://www.phoenix-trading.eu/web/michellemcandie/Store.php">My Phoenix Trading website</a>. Don't worry, I am not trying to sell them to you. They are just very lovely. They even do mermaid gift wrap which I think is fabulous!</div>coastal village lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03653513646123013658noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4164987724102520308.post-85068667742639002982010-10-08T13:23:00.001+01:002010-10-08T14:15:25.295+01:00I've been tagged ...I've been tagged by my new blogging friend Sarah at <a href="http://moderncountrystyle.blogspot.com/">Modern Country Style</a>. It was really interesting reading a bit more about Sarah and I hope this will be a little insight about me! <br />
<br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: magenta;">What did you want to be when you were growing up?</span><br />
I always wanted to be a mermaid! <br />
<br />
<span style="color: magenta;">What do you like most about where you live?</span><br />
<span style="color: black;">We live in a small village called Aberdour on the Fife coast in Scotland and I love that there are two beaches that we can go to even though the sun doesn't shine very often. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: magenta;">If you could only rescue three things from your house what would they be?</span><br />
<span style="color: black;">Oh, now, let's see! Excluding my family members as I am assuming they will be out already, I would rescue my family photo album as I wouldn't want to lose all those memories, my favourite Emma Bridgewater mug that my husband gave me when he proposed and probably my memory box for our little boy that contains all his "first" things.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: magenta;">What's your favourite book?</span><br />
Gosh, I don't get much time for reading these days, not past my house magazines anyway! Maybe some baby cook books if I am lucky. I really enjoyed reading the Shopaholic series of books by Sophie Kinsella and there is a new one out just now which I am hoping to get for Christmas called Mini Shopaholic.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: magenta;">What's your favourite room in your house?</span><br />
I like our sitting room as it has two big windows and is lovely and sunny. It needs re-decorated and a bit of a move around but it has the basis to be a good room and I like that.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: magenta;">What's your favourite joke?</span><br />
This is a "joke" that my friend's son made up...<br />
What crossed the road?<br />
A rubber ducky!<br />
I like it because it isn't even a joke but he thought it was hilarious, even though his older brother said it was silly. I can't wait for my son to start saying funny things like that!<br />

<span style="color: magenta;">What would you most like to change about your house?</span><br />
At the moment, I would like to change nearly everything which is what we are slowly trying to do. If I had to prioritise though, I would say that I would like to make the bathroom into a lovely relaxing retreat. Oh, or maybe make the kitchen sunnier?!<br />
<br />
<span style="color: magenta;">Do you believe in love at first sight?</span> <br />
Yes, and, no! I believe it can happen to some people but I believe that love can also grow on you as you get to know people. I do absolutely believe in fate though.coastal village lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03653513646123013658noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4164987724102520308.post-7287701138167274492010-10-04T13:48:00.003+01:002010-10-04T21:19:06.582+01:00Lovely new chalkboard<div style="text-align: justify;">This morning my little boy and I set off down to the village to go to the post office and chemist. However, it appears to be a local holiday so they were both closed for the day! I decided that because they were closed we would go to the park instead as it was a lovely sunny morning. </div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">On the way we pass a little shop called Coastal Reflections which opened on the day we moved here. Perfect timing as it is all things beachy and coastal! I treated myself to a new chalkboard for our kitchen. I am imagining it will be just right for the style we have in mind. We started to look at kitchen units at the weekend, very exciting!</div><br />

I get myself settled with a cup of tea and start browsing!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Yesterday, as I was excitedly reading my November issue I noticed their article on woody wallpapers. They claim we should all fall for natural tree prints this autumn. I thought, hey, I've seen something similar to that. And here it is, the wallpaper we inherited with the house which is on a feature wall around the fireplace. Isn't it funny how trends turn up again 50 years later!</div><br />

I have always been a fan of Grand Designs and last night's episode was one of the best. It was a very moving story and Lucie showed great strength and determination to build their vision and make a wonderful family home for her and her children.coastal village lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03653513646123013658noreply@blogger.com2
